hiatus is the word of the day today, thanks to the long stents of time where I am still after being on roll, getting things done, moving in the right direction and having an overwhelming amount of motivation. Then hiatus hits and I stall, stop, and slip into a period of stillness. This current hiatus can be explained by one thing… CHRISTMAS! I caught the Christmas fever bad this year and wound up shopping almost every weekend in December in order to find gifts for everyone in mine and Lilo’s family. It was crazy. I don’t think I have ever done so many consecutive weekends of shopping before in my life. I even shopped during the weekdays… it was quite a hiatus.
After December I needed a break. I needed to veg out, watch every single season of Sons of Anarchy – …hello season 6 where are you?! – and just not think. So low and behold here we are today – weeks since my last blog post and overall motivation to do something on this website – and inspiration has slowly creeped back into my psyche and I am once again blogging and shooting pictures. What got me out of this hiatus you might ask…
It hit me after I watched a session on creativeLIVE – A shoot with Sue Bryce – that I wanted to try my hand at some sue-esque photos. I wanted to put big flowers in a girls hair. Make her feel like a million bucks. Work on posing and different post processing techniques. Hell, I just wanted to create. I thought about this for a really long time. Like a really long time. A whole month. Before I finally got the courage to put a status on Facebook asking for help. I really hoped that someone would be willing to brave the cold and do a shoot. Lucky for me the Alexander girls volunteered and were really excited once I explained what I was trying to accomplish. We set a date and I went out to Michaels craft store to create some hair pieces.
It was so nice getting to spend an afternoon with these girls! I happened to meet this family in 2010 when the oldest, Casey, needed her senior photographs done. Fast forward three years and here we are out on a cold Sunday afternoon, with no agenda, just snappin’ pics. These girls were down for anything and after I could get them to stop laughing we got some seriously, serious shots! Here are a few of my favorites from the shoot:
Please note that the My Dulcet logo used as a watermark in these images was the original name of my photography business before I launched into Brittany Pelegrino Photography.
Special thanks to the Alexander girls for helping me out with this! This has turned out to be one of my most favorite projects!
I have a couple of goals for this year – no, not new year resolutions, goals… those resolutions never work – photography wise. I want to try to try the 52 week project. Instead of trying to take a photo every single day – that just seems impossible when you work a full-time job that does not involve photography – I will take a photo from the week and share it here on the blog. This way I am forcing myself to pick up my camera every single week and really shoot for the money shot. Create one shot for each week. Seems like a do-able task. I think the perfect way to kick off this 52 week project is my upcoming trip to New York! Hopefully this motivation sticks around for a while and I do kick off this project with a picture of the city that never sleeps π
Second goal: try to shoot a wedding as a second shooter. I shot one wedding over the summer of 2012 and it was a great experience! I feel like there is so much to learn about wedding photography. It would be awesome to work with someone who has a lot of weddings under their belt, help them out and get to learn more about the “craft” of wedding photography. With that being said… I need to get out there and network and email to find out who is in need of a second shooter… if you or if you know someone that is in need of a second shooter let me know π
Third goal: this is a secret. I’m still debating if this goal is the right goal for 2013. Sorry for the shameless tease, but I thought you should know there is a third one and hopefully I will make up my mind soon.
hope 2013 has started out with a bang for all of you! more to come…
